About a year ago, I became interested in tracking down pre-prohibition cocktails, learning about them, and trying them out at home. It’s been an exercise in history and a lot of fun to explore. My friend Dan down at The Skylark Lounge turned me onto these awhile back, but they’ve seen a big revival in our home since a recent trip to New Orleans for my 40th birthday.
The Pimm’s Cup is perfect for warm-weather enjoyment, but it’s ginger flavor and our dry winter weather makes it equally as refreshing in the colder months. Yummy!
How to make it:
You’ll need sliced cucumbers, lemon juice, bitters, Pimm’s, lemon-lime soda or ginger ale.
The order here is important or you end up with a thick, frothy head that takes forever to go down. This happens when you add the Pimm’s first.
- Muddle sliced cucumbers in bottom of an 8oz. glass.
- Fill glass about 80% to the top with soda.
- Add 1 to 1 1/2 oz. of Pimm’s (more or less to taste)
- Dash of bitters
- 1 tsp of lemon juice
- Stir gently
- Add another cucumber slice as garnish.
