I’ve had a bit of an identity problem for several years now. I’m in the user experience (web) design field and maintain a portfolio of work at alanawaters.com.
We found out a few years back that there is a call girl in Atlanta who goes by my name and uses the URL alana-waters.com. (not linked, nsfw)
I know I sound like I’m complaining, but really it’s been a fairly amusing situation. My email address is nearly identical to hers, save for the world’s most crucial hyphen. On occasion I get her email which is almost cause for celebration. Typically I forward it to my husband and we laugh. We learn a LOT.
Like super-wide -eyed-jaw-dropped-open learn a lot.
Today was semi-amusing in that a recruiter sent an invitation for a job interview.
Reflecting back on some of the common terms used in my industry I’m wondering how she may have interpreted the invitation.
“User experience professional wanted to manage large team.”
Explaining to him why I had not received his meeting invitation and who it actually went to instead made for a lot of professional hypersensitive tiptoeing, that’s for sure!
I wonder if she’ll show up to the meeting. Sure hope she doesn’t blow it.
